St Albans Bin Collection (stalbansbincollection.co.uk) is a free, independent community website that helps residents check their upcoming household bin collection dates.
We respect your privacy and aim to use only the information necessary to provide and improve this service.
1. Information we use
When you enter a postcode and select an address, we use that information to retrieve the relevant bin collection dates. You do not need to register or provide your name, email address or telephone number.
2. Remembering your address
You can optionally choose to remember your selected address on your device. If you enable this feature, we save your address and property reference in your browser's local storage (localStorage).
This means you won't need to enter your address every time you visit. If you don't enable this option, your selected address will not be saved for future visits.
You can remove a remembered address using the Clear saved address option or by clearing your browser's website data.
3. Collection information
When you search for an address or check collection dates, your postcode or property reference is sent to our servers. We use St Albans City & District Council's online services to retrieve collection information.
To improve performance, address lookup results may be cached for up to 30 days and collection schedules for up to 7 days. These caches are used to provide the service, not to track individual visitors.
4. Cookies and analytics
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand website usage and monitor performance. This provides aggregated information such as page views, visitor countries, browser types and loading times.
Cloudflare Web Analytics does not use cookies, localStorage or fingerprinting to track visitors. We do not use Google Analytics, advertising cookies or personalised advertising.
Our website uses optional local storage to remember your address and may cache application files to improve performance.
On phones that can add this website to the Home Screen, we also store a small note in local storage so we only suggest it once: the date you first saw your collection dates, and the date you closed the suggestion, if you did. It contains nothing about you or your address, and it is never sent to us. Clearing your browser's website data removes it.
5. Hosting and security
Our website is hosted by Cloudflare, which provides hosting, caching, analytics and security services. Cloudflare may process technical information such as IP addresses, browser details and request information to operate and protect the website.

6. Why we process information
We process postcode, address and relevant technical information to operate the free bin collection lookup service, maintain security and improve performance.
Where UK GDPR applies, we rely on our legitimate interests in providing and maintaining this service, subject to individuals' rights and freedoms.
7. Sharing information
We do not sell personal information or share it with advertisers or data brokers.
Cloudflare processes information as our hosting and analytics provider. Relevant property information is also used to retrieve collection information from St Albans City & District Council's systems.
8. Your choices and rights
You can choose whether to remember your address and remove saved information at any time.
Where UK GDPR applies, you may have rights to access, correct or erase personal information, restrict or object to certain processing, and complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
